Summary
Amélie is an eccentric young woman who has a few... quirks. Because of a strange upbringing, she is extremely introverted and finds fulfillment in the "little things" rather than interpersonal relationships. She loves observing other people's lives from afar and noticing their quirks and complexes. One day, she finds a hidden treasure in her apartment, and decides to return it to it's rightful owner. This journey sparks a change in Amélie's life, and she finds herself finally connecting with her family, making new friends, and even meeting romantic interests.
Mini-Critique
Disclaimer: Amélie is hands down my favorite movie of all time, so I'm a bit biased. The cinematography is eclectic, the costuming amazing, the casting and acting are superb. Truly, I believe that everyone should see this movie at least once (I've seen it at least 6 times....). Indie films fanatics will love the plot and characters, romantic comedy nuts will adore Amélie's foray into romance, and mystery lovers will even enjoy the tiny mysteries that pop up throughout the movie.

As is the case for most foreign language films, Amélie is very difficult to understand without subtitles, and extremely easy to understand with subtitles. I would highly suggest watching the movie twice, the first time with subtitles in order to get a grasp of the plot, and a second time without subtitles to see if you can follow along in French. Trust me, you'll want to watch it a second time.
