Genre: Telenovela/TV Drama
Summary
Given my own love for binge-watching, I thought it might be time to suggest a telenovela on Borderlands! Telenovelas are essentially Spanish (usually Latin American) soap operas, and are known the world over as scrumptiously dramatic and addicting. As a major K-drama (Korean drama) fan myself, it should not be surprising that I am a huge telenovela addict, and La Usurpadora is one of my favorites so far. La Usurpadora follows the converging lives of twin sisters Paola and Paulina who were separated at birth by adoption. Paola, a rich vagrant with a malicious agenda, runs into the innocent impoverished Paulina at an expensive club where Paulina works. Paola immediately takes advantage of her estranged sister and convinces her to switch places with her so that she can take a vacation with her boyfriend, leaving her husband and children behind. In keeping with the Telenovela tradition, the show is insanely dramatic, with scandalous reveals, scathing cat-fights, and melodramatic music up the wazoo!

Difficulty Rating
★★✩✩✩Easygoing / ★★★★✩ Tough Cookie
See our "About" page for an overview of our difficulty ratings!
La Usurpadora is a fast-paced show full of rapid-fire Spanish dialogue. Because of this, La Usurpadora is very difficult to follow without subtitles, earning it a ★★★★✩ Tough Cookie rating. However, should you watch La Usurpadora with subtitles, following the plot is quite easy, and thus could be considered more of an ★★✩✩✩Easygoing level show. Keep in mind that if you watch with subtitles, you will have to make a conscious effort to attentively listen to the Spanish audio, rather than just tuning it out. If you want to challenge yourself, try to avoid reading the subtitles for a few minutes, and see if you can still follow the plot.
