Genre: Comic, everyday humor
Summary
Desperate Bledardes is a Seinfield-esque Facebook webcomic that pokes fun at the little things in the lives of millennial. Author Mayada uses her and her friends' real-life situations as inspiration for her chuckle-inducing comics, which are usually only about one to three panels long. Like a true millennial, her favorite topics are food, Netflix binges and relationship drama. Installations are usually light on text and follow simple, consistent themes.
Mini-Critique
Desperate Bledardes is a great way to fit a little French reading practice into your day and to buff up your French slang vocabulary! The comics are relatively simple and easy to understand, and the images/themes of the comics make it easy to pick up new slang terms and phrases just by context. I'd encourage language learners of all levels to follow the Facebook page, if only to sneak a little more French into your daily social media scroll.

See our "About" page for an overview of our difficulty ratings!
Desperate Bledards is light enough in terms of words and length that entry level language learners should find that they can read the comics with little to no help from online dictionaries or translators. The comics are quick, highly contextual and often follow the same theme from installation to installation. The slang may be difficult, but nothing a little context or a quick jaunt to Linguee shouldn't be able to fix!
